Derek Pilecki is the Founder, Managing Member, and Portfolio Manager of Gator Capital Management, established in 2008. He is responsible for leading the firm’s investment strategies, with a focus on Financials sector portfolios across long/short and long-only mandates. Since inception, Derek has maintained primary responsibility for portfolio management and investment decision-making.
Derek oversees all portfolio construction, research, and risk management activities across the firm’s strategies, including private funds, mutual funds, and separately managed accounts.
Derek was a Portfolio Manager and Co-Chair of the Investment Committee for the Growth Equity Team at Goldman Sachs Asset Management (2002–2008). He was an Analyst at Clover Capital Management and Burridge Growth Partners, where he focused on the Financials sector (2000–2002). Derek began his career at Fannie Mae, performing interest rate risk analysis for the firm’s mortgage investment portfolio (1994–1998).
Derek holds an MBA with honors in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago and a BA in Economics from Duke University. He is a CFA® charterholder.
